September is the Time to Celebrate Life!

By Dee Siegferth

Sometimes many of us do not realize life’s simple pleasures and milestones; which include:  the birth of a child, getting the perfect job; marrying the man of your dreams; or sharing laughs and special occasions with friends and family.    To make sure Americans are reminded of the need to include life insurance in their financial plans, the nonprofit LIFE Foundation coordinates this September as Life Insurance Awareness Month; which helps us stop and realize the importance of getting life insurance.   Unfortunately, tens of millions of Americans lack adequate life insurance protection. If they were to die prematurely, life would quickly become a struggle for their loved ones, leaving little time to enjoy life’s amazing milestones.

You may have heard of Lamar Odom, a two-time NBA champion and star of the hit reality TV show Khloé & Lamar!    Lamar is the 2011 Life Insurance Awareness Month spokesperson. Lamar grew up in a single-parent household in Queens, New York and lost his mother to colon cancer when he was 12 years old. His mother’s life insurance played a big role in helping to keep Lamar’s life on track.   Insurance money allowed Lamar to remain in Catholic school where he continued to get a great education. When he turned 18, he didn’t have to immediately earn a paycheck, which gave him the opportunity to attend college for several years rather than enter the NBA at too early an age.

Life insurance can do some pretty amazing things for people. It can buy loved ones time to grieve; pay off debts and loans, and provide surviving family members with the chance to move on with a clean slate. It can keep families in their homes and pre-fund a child’s college education. It can keep a family business in the family, and even provide a stream of income for a family to live on for a period of time. Life insurance can do all of these wonderful things for your family…there’s just one small catch. You need to own life insurance.
